St. George Island, Florida
The main attraction at St. George Island State Park is the nine miles of undeveloped, white sandy beaches. Besides sunbathing and swimming in the warm Gulf waters, visitors to this park are invited to canoe and kayak or fish for flounder, pompano, or Spanish mackerel. For those who enjoy fun outside of the water, there are nature trails that run through pine flatwood forest and live oak hammocks, which run all the way to the Bay. When hiking, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for snowy plovers, black skimmers, and willets. In addition, St. George has as a great picnic area and a state-of-the-art playground for tots. The 60 campsites with electricity and water make for a comfortable overnight stay at this beautiful and relaxing State Park.
From St. George Island State Park (Dr. Julian G. Bruce) - Florida:
As the Gulf water temperatures increase with the onset of a beautiful summer so do the number of visitors to the park. Luckily, there are nine miles of white sand beaches to find a place to rest and enjoy a break from work or school. For those who prefer shade to sun there are miles of trails through the pines to keep you occupied. Birds are plentiful as well as other flora and fauna. Kayaks, both single and double, are now available for daily rental. Ask the ranger at the office for more information. With sunny weather the fishermen are becoming as abundant as the fish themselves. Come enjoy the experience at St. George Island State Park.
