Not for the faint of heart, the Ripley's Believe it or Not! Museum in St. Augustine is filled with oddities sure to shock and excite any visitor. With more than 800 unusual exhibits, this is one attraction you won't soon forget!
The chain of Ripley's museums originally began with Robert Ripley's personal collection of oddities, which was on display at the 1933 Chicago's World Fair. The St. Augustine Ripley's, the first official location, is in a Moorish Revival-style castle that was built in 1887. Since 1950, the building has been the permanent location of Ripley's Believe It or Not!
The inside of the castle is even cooler than the outside, housing hundreds of rare artifacts from all over the world, including a Haitian voodoo doll owned by Papa Doc Duvalier, to letters carved on a pencil with a chainsaw by Ray "Wild Mountain Man" Murphy. The museum also features a 3,200-square-feet interactive area with games and fun activities that kids will love, and a cool gift shop with one-of-a-kind items from around the world.
Ripley's St. Augustine is located at 19 San Marco Avenue, and with plenty of great dining options nearby, why not clear the afternoon for lunch and oddities here at Ripley's Believe it or Not!
