Our Museum Expert Says:

Visitors can enjoy the convenience of a science museum, history museum, and planetarium all under one roof at the Museum of Science and History.

The long-term collection of exhibits at the Museum of Science and History, focus on topics of interest or importance to the nature, early settlements, and modern development of Jacksonville. Long-term exhibits include Universe of Science, a hands-on science exhibit for curious minds of all ages, and Currents of Time, where kids come face-to-face with the ancient Timucua Indians, fly through a World War 2 Navy hangar, visit a house from the '50s, and more. For children aged 5 years and under, there is KidSpace, which features a tree house that was inspired by Jacksonville's historic Treaty Oak and a water table. In addition to the regular exhibits, the Museum of Science and History hosts a number of special events, ranging from the Native American History Festival to monthly exhibitions by the Jacksonville Herpetological Society.

The museum's Alexander Brest Planetarium offers informative and fun programs for all ages, and admission is included in museum membership or general admission. Cosmic Concerts, which are not included in general admission and require special passes, combine a full-color laser projection system and hundreds of special effects on the planetarium's 60-foot dome with an 18,000 watt sound system to immerse visitors in a total visual and auditory music experience. The soundtracks for the programs are recorded and played back digitally, allowing for the cleanest, crispest sound possible.

The Museum of Science and History is located on the Southbank Riverwalk in downtown Jacksonville, adjacent to Friendship Park and across the river from the Jacksonville Landing.
