In 1961 the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens in Jacksonville, Florida, showcased sixty pieces of art, launching a world of splendor and beauty. Today, over six-thousand works, encompassing eight thousand years of history await your viewing at this magnificent museum.

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens houses a collection of significant European and American paintings, and a world-renowned collection of early Meissen porcelain. The museum is surrounded by two acres of English and Italian style formal gardens, beautifully situated on the banks of the St. Johns River.

The European collection contains 1100 paintings, sculptures, works on paper and decorative arts dating from the 12th to 20th centuries. The holdings are particularly strong in Old Master paintings, containing works by Gaddi, Aertsen, Vasari, Assereto, Rubens, Snyders, Steen and Lorrain.

The Museum's American Art Collection contains over one thousand paintings, sculptures, decorative arts and works on paper dating from the 18th century to the present. On display are beautiful 19th century landscape works by Moran, Lewis, Heade and Kensett as well as portraiture works by West, Stuart, Sully and Neagle. Also showcased are works by Impressionist artists Hassam, Miller, Frieseke and Greacen, Regionalist artists Benton and Curry, and Ashcan school artists Henri, Bellows and Glakens.

The early Meissen Porcelain Collection of over 700 pieces is one of the three finest and most comprehensive collections in the world. The Antiquities Collection of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens contains fine examples of the art of Egypt, Etruria, Greece and Rome that date from 2100 B.C. to 300 A.D. The collection includes statuary, relief sculpture, funerary objects, black-figure and red-figure pottery, jewelry, mosaic and daily implements.

To get to the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens from I-95: Exit at #350A, which is the Riverside Avenue/Acosta Bridge exit. Align with the overhead signs to Riverside Avenue, which will bring you over the Acosta Bridge and to the first traffic light on Riverside Avenue. Follow Riverside for ¾ of a mile and the museum is on the left hand side with parking lots on the right.
