Things to do / Travel Guide

Golf courses in northeast Florida and the Panhandle feature sea breezes that often turn into strong winds, and tons of water, either from the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, or natural marshes; and rolling fairways to skew the lie of your ball. Those featured here are all challenging courses for golfers of every skill level.

Golf along the First Coast and on Amelia Island

If you're thinking of a Ponte Vedra Beach golf vacation, one popular spot for the professionals is the TPC at Sawgrass Stadium Course. With water and wind all around, only the best golfers should consider taking this one on.

Another great place for a golf vacation is Amelia Island Plantation.
The Long Point Course combines the ocean, marsh, and woods to make this a beautiful, challenging course. Again, experts will have the most fun at this one, but there's also an excellent golf school that every golfer can benefit from.

Finally, Ocean Hammock, designed by Jack Nicklaus, uses “elevated mounds of scrub oak and native brush called ‘hammocks' to create natural ocean barriers.” This new facility is a joy to the eyes, and lots of fun for all golfers.

Golf on the Florida Panhandle

Out along the Panhandle, the two featured courses are the Sandestin Burnt Pines Course, and

Camp Creek. Sandestin has been called the “Crown Jewel of Florida Golf” by Golf Magazine, and Golf Digest has named it one of the “Top 30 Courses in Florida.” That's high praise. Wind, forest, and wetland are the main hazards on this jewel.

Camp Creek might be a little more forgiving than Burnt Pines, but not by much. Water is once again the hazard to avoid, being that you'll find it on every hole. Fortunately, water is what makes the golf course so beautiful.
