Our History Buff Says:

Welcome to Rockefeller Center, one of New York City's favorite tourist attractions! Located in Midtown Manhattan (between 48th and 51st streets), the tallest of the fourteen buildings in Rockefeller Center stands 850 feet tall, towering over NYC as the ninth tallest building in the city. Because of its looming heights, Rockefeller Center provides outstanding views of the city, and a particularly good view of the Empire State Building. Guests are invited to the observation deck to take the Top of the Rock tour, located at the top of the GE Building.

Rockefeller Center was built in 1939, an art deco style building designed by Raymond Hood and named for man who leased the space from Columbia University, John D. Rockefeller. This huge 22 acre complex includes the GE Building (located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, or "30 Rock"), home of Studio 8H, filming spot of Saturday Night Live, Radio City Music Hall, Christie's (the largest auction house in the world), and many other buildings that house studios (like The Today Show) and large corporations (like Bank of America). Call ahead of time to book a tour of the entire complex, or just sign up for the NBC Studio tour or the Radio City Music Hall tour.

Guests are also invited to visited the underground concourse of Rockefeller Center, a world unto itself filled with shops, fast food, Starbucks, and fine dining, located right near the famous (yet very pricey) ice skating rink. Though prices can run upwards toward $20 (depending on the season), the experience, especially at Christmas time, of skating in the chilly air under the 90 foot Christmas tree, is well worth the money. Not only is Christmas the most popular time to go (watch out for crowds!), it also marks the anniversary of the rink, which opened its doors on Christmas Day in 1936.

Take part in a quintessential New York City experience and spend the day touring, shopping, and skating at Rockefeller Center!
