Our Tourist Attractions Expert Says:
Prior to World War II New York City dwellers would flock to Coney Island in the summers to enjoy the midway games and rides at the Dreamland and other amusement parks. A claim has been made for calling Coney Island the first amusement park in the United States. While much of the glamour of yesteryear is gone, the wonderful New York Aquarium still attracts tourists as does the boardwalk extending to Brighton Beach.
Coney Island is a great family excursion, exciting both for today's action, as well as imagining the place a century ago. Don't miss the Cyclone, quite possibly the world's most famous rollercoaster, has been thrilling riders since 1927. The Coney Island Sideshow features a freak show and a small museum and don't even think about leaving Coney Island before getting one of Nathan's famous hot dogs.
