Our History Buff Says:

The Chrysler Building may on paper just seem like another Art Deco skyscraper, but anyone who's ever seen the New York City skyline knows that there's something special about this building.

Looming overhead at a majestic 1,046 feet (plus another 925 feet for the roof!), the Chrysler Building is located on Manhattan's East Side at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. Famous for being the tallest brick building in the world, the Chrysler Building is also famed for its lavish terraced crown, an ornamental piece of stainless steel architecture that has visitors from all over the world flocking to New York City to see. The materials and detail on the building are reminiscent of the features used on Chrysler automobiles at the time of construction, in 1928. The Chrysler Building now stands high above almost all other buildings in New York City (and in the country) as a permanent tribute to the automobile industry.

An iconic part of the New York City skyline, nearly everyone in the world recognizes the Chrysler Building, from its depiction in artwork, photography, and major motion pictures and television, like Armageddon, Godzilla, and thousands more.

There are no official tours or exhibits at the Chrysler Building, but the lobby is open to visitors daily and is worth the trip just to see the beautiful ceiling murals upon building entry.

So drop by the building with the unforgettable spire and the gleaming crown for an up close and personal look at one of New York City's favorite buildings.
