Jersey Boys is a musical that chronicles the lives of the 1960s rock group, the Four Seasons and their lead singer Frankie Valli. It is a story of triumph, about how four guys from the streets New Jersey work their way up to become acclaimed rock stars. It's a rags-to-riches story with an unforgettable soundtrack.
Rock n' roll fans will recognize popular Four Seasons songs such as "Earth Angel", "Bye Bye Baby", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Rag Doll", "Sherry", "Walk Like A Man", "Big Girls Don't Cry", and more.
Jersey Boys won four Tony Awards in 2006 including Best Musical and Best Actor (John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli). It has been performed at the August Wilson Theater since 2005.
The August Wilson Theater is a Broadway theater that has gone through many transformations. It was originally built as the Guild Theatre in 1925. In 1943 was leased out and became the WOR-Mutual Radio studio. In 1950 it was bought by the American National Theater and Academy who renamed it the ANTA Theatre. In 1981 it was bought out again and named the Virginia Theatre, and then it was finally renamed to its current August Wilson Theatre in 2005, just two weeks after the playwright August Wilson passed away.
Though the theater passed through many owners and many names, the standard of putting on first-rate productions always stayed the same. Some notable productions include Pygmalion in 1926, The Merchant of Yonkers in 1938, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1974, Annie in 1981, Smokey Joe's Café in 1995, The Crucible in 2002, and Little Shop of Horrors in 2003.
Showtimes for Jersey Boys are Tuesdays at 7:00pm, Wednesdays-Saturdays at 8:00pm, Wednesday matinees at 3:00pm, and Sunday matinees at 2:00pm. The August Wilson Theater is located at 245 W. 52nd Street in New York City.
