Our Museum Expert Says:

Soak in some history in the city that never sleeps! The art and artifacts found in the New-York Historical Society pay homage to the founding of the United States, the history of art in the U.S., and the history of New York and its people. From fine art to decorative arts, to sculpture, manuscripts, photos and prints, visitors here will get a chance to see the U.S. through the eyes of the Big Apple.

The collection of more than 60,000 objects at the New York Historical Society includes works such as Hudson River School landscapes, John James Audubon's watercolors for "The Birds of America," as well as an encyclopedic collection of sculptures. Some of the more popular attractions here include one of the most important Tiffany lamp collections, along with artifacts relating to New York's participation in events such as the slave trade, the American Revolution, and the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. These centerpieces are complemented by three million manuscripts, photographs, prints, maps and books that serve as cultural chronicles.

Older kid visitors are sure to find the quirky bits of history interesting - and everyone is invited to enjoy the Café at N-YHS for great sandwiches, salads & pastries.
