Since opening in 2002, New York's Museum of Sex has quickly become the go-to place for researching the history, evolution, and cultural significance of human sexuality. Whether you're a man or a woman, gay or straight, the museum of sex caters directly to you! The museum displays explicit BDSM, pornography, and various sexual displays, all in an educational format.
The museum's location is especially apt, being located in the section of New York formerly known as the "Tenderloin," a district notorious for its bordellos, risqué dance halls, and saloons. The Museum of Sex inaugural exhibit, NYC Sex: How New York City Transformed Sex in America was focused on New York City itself, the museum quickly branched out into a more thorough exploration of sex and sexual history in different cultures around the world.
Since then, the museum has hosted 12 different exhibitions, including "Vamps and Virgins: The Evolution of American Pinup Photography 1860-1960," "Men Without Suits: Objectifying the American Male Body," Sex Among the Lotus: 2500 Years of Chinese Erotic Obsession," and "GET OFF: Exploring the Pleasure Principles." The permanent collection is comprised of over 15,000 artifacts of sex, including art, photography, pornography, clothing, and technological inventions.
The Museum of Sex is located on the corner of 5th Avenue and 27th Street in Manhattan. Have fun!
