Our Museum Expert Says:

See one of the world's greatest collections of artistic, literary, musical, and historical works! See real illuminated manuscripts and original Bob Dylan lyrics sheets! The Morgan Library is a truly eclectic mix of treasures, such that anyone who visits will find something to enjoy.

The Morgan Library was founded to house the private library of J. P. Morgan, which included his personal collection of prints and drawings. Today, the Renaissance-style palazzo library has grown to occupy half a city block, including the adjacent brownstone, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a New York City Landmark. Besides prints and drawings, the collection includes illuminated manuscripts, as well as original manuscripts by Sir Walter Scott, Balzac, and the scraps of paper on which Bob Dylan jotted down his famous songs, "Blowin' in the Wind" and "It Ain't Me Babe." There is also a large collection of drawings here of European artists such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt and Rubens, and three original Gutenberg Bibles.

When here, top off your visit at the Morgan Court Café, which serves light lunches and even afternoon tea.

To get here by subway: take 6 to 33rd Street; 4, 5, 6, 7 or S to 42nd Street/Grand Central; or buses M1, M2, M3 or M4 to 36th Street.
