Our Museum Expert Says:

With spectacular space shows, lectures, debates and more, the Hayden Planetarium is a true celebration of the Universe and our place in it!

The Hayden Planetarium houses the Star Theater, which uses high-resolution video to project "space shows" based on real astrophysical data, and a customized Projector system, which projects the night sky. The sphere's bottom half is home to the Big Bang Theater, which depicts the birth of the universe in a four-minute program. Kids and adults alike will surely be intrigued by the star shows as well as the Size Scales of the Universe exhibit which shows the vast array of sizes in the universe. In the Hall of Planet Earth, visitors can explore geology, weather, plate tectonics and more, or go down to the Hall of the Universe to explore the realms of planets, stars and galaxies.

The Hayden Planetarium also offers monthly lectures, and if you ever get your head out of the stars, pop into the Café on One, which serves gourmet catering.

To get here by subway, take the B (weekdays only) or C to 81st Street. Two blocks west of the Museum, the 1 and 9 trains stop at Broadway and West 79th Street.
