The Children's Museum of the Arts, located in Manhattan, is a unique art museum that caters to the minds and imaginations of children ages 1-12. Here children are encouraged to think and express themselves creatively and artistically in a safe, confidence-boosting environment.
In addition to looking at and learning about the world of children's art around them, kids get the opportunity to explore the art of puppet making, computer drawing, and other artistic medias and mediums. For children ages ten months to 3½ years old, the Children's Museum of the Arts offers a special Wee-Arts program that allows young children to develop developmental and artistic skills using materials like playdough, paint, glue and other tools. Music, stories, and a drum circle are also used to stimulate the imaginations of the little ones. 3½ to five year olds further engage in sculpture and collage, and three to seven year olds can participate in unique Japanese language art classes! When kids are not engaged in classes and activities, they can take advantage of the museum's unique art collection of over 2,000 paintings and drawing from around the world, including children's art from China, Argentina, Pakistan, Australia, Norway, Indonesia, Russia, and Senegal.
The Children's Museum of the Arts generally costs about $10, but if you come on a Thursday between 4-6pm, you get to pay what you wish—hard to say no to that! The museum is located at 182 Lafayette Street in Manhattan. You can take the 6 train to Spring Street, the NQRW to Canal, or the BDFV to Broadway/Broome Street. Have fun!
