Climb 5,721 feet to the top of Mount Pisgah, a mountain in the Appalachian Mountain Range that is also part of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. If climbing to the summit doesn't suit you, Mount Pisgah has easy hiking trails leading to historical sites and wildlife. When you're ready to relax, Mount Pisgah has a well-equipped picnic area. A magical night on Mount Pisgah can be spent at the inn 5,000 feet up the mountain, or at the campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mount Pisgah is a great place to watch the fall leaves change colors. The weather on the mountain can change quickly, so bring different types of clothing, or dress in layers.
The Blue Ridge Parkway makes Mount Pisgah easily accessible. The trail leading to Mount Pisgah's summit starts at milepost 407 of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the west side of the road at an overlook labeled "Mount Pisgah Parking". The trail is 1.6 miles long and is moderately difficult. Also at the Mount Pisgah parking area is the Buck Spring trailhead. An easier trail, this is a short walk to an historic exhibit at the foundation stone remains of the George Vanderbilt Hunting lodge. Vanderbilt bought Mount Pisgah and its surrounding areas so he and his family could have a private hunting retreat. Both the summit and the Buck Spring trails are home to wildlife. You may spot bear, deer and other forest animals. After all that exercise, take a breather at the Mount Pisgah picnic area, on the east side of the Parkway at milepost 407. The picnic area has grills, tables and restroom facilities.
Spend an unforgettable night at the Pisgah Inn. Each room has its own porch and fantastic views. The upstairs rooms are recommended for a better view of the area or a great sunset. The inn also has a restaurant and a gift shop The Pisgah Inn is only open from April through October and at 5,000 feet high with awesome views and the start of hiking trails, this place is very popular, so reserve your stay early. If you feel like roughing it, Mount Pisgah Campground is at milepost 408 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Several hiking trails can be accessed from the campground.
Getting to Mount Pisgah is just as beautiful as being on the mountain. On the way, there are many overlooks where you can park and take pictures of the view. Wild pigs, raccoons, or deer are often sited on the drive. There are also many wonderful tunnels through the mountains that will excite and interest children; On the North Carolina side of the parkway, there are a total of 27 tunnels!
