Our Tourist Attractions Expert Says:

Bennington, Vermont is the place to visit for history, scenery, unique Vermont shopping, and excellent dining. While Bennington doesn't have a plethora of fun attractions like other cities and states, you can shop in Bennington for things that make the state famous, such as Vermont maple syrup, cheese, and cider. Bennington is also the home of nationally renowned Bennington Pottery. Add to all of this the variety of lodging and dining establishments and easy access to Southern Vermont's popular ski areas, you'll be in heaven in Bennington. Vermont's third largest city in the most south-western part of Vermont can be seen in two ways: Old Bennington with its monuments, history and old-fashioned homes, and modern Bennington with shops and restaurants.

Visit the Bennington Battle Monument atop the highest structure in Vermont, to commemorate the Battle of Bennington on August 16, 1777. The 306-foot high monument provides views of three states and three mountain ranges. Although there is parking around the monument, walking to the monument from town is a good idea so you can see the many beautiful, historic homes in the area. For a more detailed history of Bennington's Colonial past, visit the Bennington Museum on Main Street. See exhibits commemorating the Revolutionary War, like the oldest American revolutionary flag in existence, uniforms and firearms. Also on display is a model of the Battle of Bennington, and a large collection of pottery, glass, and furniture. The largest public collection of paintings by Grandma Moses, the beloved folk artist is housed in the museum. Outside the museum is the Grandma Moses Schoolhouse, which she attended as a child.

From William H Morse State Airport it should take you about ten minutes to reach Bennington.
