Mount Snow is Vermont's second largest ski resort. It first opened its doors in 1954, and quickly became a favorite of serious skiers. Nowadays it remains popular with both local and visiting skiers and snowboarders from the New York area and beyond. This popularity stems partially from local favorite Kelly Clark's gold medal in the halfpipe at the 2002 Olympics.
This family friendly resort is located in West Dover, Vermont, and has 108 trails and 19 lifts spread across five mountains. Its terrain is varied, with gentler wider slopes for beginners and more challenging terrain for intermediate and advanced skiers, including plenty of tree lined glades. Weather permitting, the mountain opens its doors in November and keeps on going until April.
After Kelly Clark's 2002 Olympic win, snowboarders began flocking to Mount Snow. It is "the" place for free riders who want to be a part of the action. The snowboarders flock to the Gut, a 460 foot long, 18 foot, competition superpipe. Another attraction at Mount Snow is the Vermonster; the longest terrain park in the East, measuring in at 4,940 feet. Taking your first steps on a board? Try out the Jiblet, a progression style, smaller featured, terrain park built just for newbies. Make sure to check out the event calendar for extreme events such as the Snocross, Big Air, and freeskiing competitions, as well as NASTAR races.
There a variety of on slope and off slope activities nearby. Whether it is guided snowmobile tours or cross country skiing over 30 miles of groomed trails, there are plenty of ideas to choose from. A romantic sleigh ride is also an option, with afternoon rides available, including a visit to nearby log cabin. The resort also has a health club and a spa, with massages and additional services available.
Après ski, Mount Snow has a vibrant nightlife, with a variety of on slope bars and restaurants. On slope dining varies widely, from pizza to Mexican cuisine. Off slope choices range from home-cooking to gourmet cuisine, so any taste bud and budget are sure to be satisfied. In addition, this part of Vermont has always been a happening kind of place. There is a wide selection of bars and live venues as well as quiet pubs throughout the region.
There a variety of on-slope lodging options, including a hotel right in the center of the action. There are also four condominiums in the village, scattered throughout the base area. Off-slope lodging options are numerous and varied, and include lodges, inns, hotels, and motels options from which to choose.
From Mount Snow Ski Resort - West Dover, Vermont:
Mount Snow Resort has four mountain areas (Main Mountain, North Face, Carinthia and Sunbrook), and offers a variety of terrain suitable for all outdoor enthusiasts. It boasts a two-mile-long novice trail from the summit, 100-yard-wide intermediate trails and an expert North Face that includes Ripcord, Mount Snow's steepest trail and one the the steepest in New England.
Year after year, Mount Snow is ranked tops in the East when it comes to terrain parks and pipes. That's no surprise. It was Mount Snow, after all, who opened the first terrain park in the East – Un Blanco Gulch – and we've been setting the standard ever since. With four terrain parks covering more than 40 acres, a superpipe and a tubing park, we've got something for everyone.
