For some of the most historic and top-rated runs in New England, skiiers keep coming back to Cardigan Mountain. Located in New Hampshire's Lakes Region, the mountain, which is actually the second highest in southern New Hampshire, boasts classic down-mountain runs and a network of cross-country ski trails appropriate for all skill levels. Excellent views of the New England countryside will wow you as you slide down the deep snow on the Alexandria and Duke's Ski trails on the east side of the Cardigan Summit ridge. With over 50 miles of backcountry ski trails, and located just 100 miles from big city Boston, Cardigan Mountain is a classic ski destination.
The Alexandria Ski Trail follows the fall line just below the summit ledges and is accesible via the Holt Trail. The trail''s 20-foot width makes it a comfortable option for skiiers turning their way down the mountain. The steepness ranges from 20 to 25 degrees and the trail goes on for miles. Duke's Trail is longer and easier than Alexandria, although rather difficult to find. In the area near the lodge, beginners can enjoy an expansive network of cross-country ski trails and gentle downhill slopes.
Just a short drive from Boston, Cardigan Lodge is located in a spectacular setting at the base of Mount Cardigan in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The newly-renovated lodge offers 50 miles of hiking and backcountry ski trails, and a swimming pond on 1,200 acres of AMC-owned woodland bordering Cardigan State Park.
