This self-contained resort village embraces classic, New England style twisting trails on its slopes. Perhaps more importantly though, all those trails converge at the main base lodge -- meaning families can spend their time skiing and not searching for each other. Ascutney is family friendly in both its amenities and in the practical ski setup. Located just 6 miles off of highway 1-91 in Southern Vermont, the mid-size resort is a short drive from nearby Hartford or Boston, making Ascutney a convenient pick for the families that flock to its slopes.
Ascutney has diverse terrain, with a good variety of runs for advanced and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Nine trails boast the double-black-diamond label, appealing to expert skiers. North Peak Summit will attract the intermediate skiers and riders (try Gateway and Heavenly). A separate beginner area has a selection of trails, including Bright Side, Duck Soup, Easy Rider, Little Eagle and the Mini Olympian Park. Rip Zone Terrain Park features a variety of kickers, tabletops, rails and a 24-foot mail box. Music blasts throughout the park to get skiers and riders in a party mood.
