Mount Mansfield - Vermont

Things to do / Travel Guide

Our Nature Nut Says:

Hike up the highest and most frequently visited mountain in Vermont! Mount Mansfield has the appearance of a human face when viewed from the east or west, with a distinct forehead, nose, lips, chin and Adam's apple. The mountain is one of two spots in Vermont where true alpine tundra survives from the ice ages.

Today, visitors can drive their way up the mountain and park below the summit. A 2-hour hike along well-marked trails will bring you to the top for unforgettable views. A group of famous trails here are known as the "Front Four" - Goat, Starr, National and Liftline all contain steep pitches, many natural hazards (rocks and trees), and little grooming. Winter visitors can enjoy numerous cross country ski trails around the base of the mountain and on its lower slopes.
