The New Hampshire-Vermont region has a reputation for simple, hearty eating, ranging from boiled lobsters to prime rib. Local shellfish delicacies, like oysters, clams, and scallops, prepared in a myriad of different ways, are also available. The Portsmouth area, in particular, serves up some good New England clam chowder. Because of the abundant fishing in the area, the choices fish at local eateries is quite extensive. Game meat such as venison and grouse are also popular delectable delicacies in the region, and New Hampshire's state food is the delicious, creamy corn chowder. The New Hampshire and Vermont region is not necessarily known for fine dining, but upscale cuisine experiences can be had at a few exclusive restaurants. The Home Hill French Inn and Restaurant in Plainfield, New Hampshire and the Barnard Inn Restaurant in Barnard, Vermont, for instance, do much to satisfy that craving for delectable delicacies and an agreeable ambiance.
Naturally, dining out at fine establishments like these will cost you somewhat more than the daily special at a fast-food joint.
