A full range of organized tours that can be had in the New Hampshire and Vermont region, from bike tours to bus tours to hiking and walking tours.
Bus Tours in New Hampshire and Vermont
One of the best and most comfortable ways to experience the region's gorgeous fall foliage and see roaming wildlife is from the window of a luxury bus. In September and October, many bus charters take advantage of the leaves' changing colors to offer travelers a breathtaking ride through the region. And wildlife like black bears, porcupines, moose, white-tailed deer, and raccoons frolic around the countryside throughout the year. Snaking their way through New Hampshire's White Mountains and Vermont's Green Mountains as well as plenty of rolling countryside, the views from these buses get more and more colorful with new four-legged surprises around every turn. Many such multi-day tours are combined with bed and breakfast packages, where travelers stay in cozy B&Bs and receive locally-influenced meals (i.e., bring on the macaroni and cheese and maple syrup!) before and after traversing the highways and byways in the quest to capture some more beautiful foliage and scenery the region has to offer.
One such tour is the Treasures of Vermont tour. Taking place over almost a full week in the heart of the fall foliage season, this multi-day tour through all parts of Vermont stops at many of the region's famous sites, such as the Cabot Creamery, the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory, the Trapp Family Lodge, and others. All the while receiving excellent narration as they travel from attraction to attraction in a luxury motor coach, visitors can actively leaf-peep at the gorgeous multicolored leaves for which the region is world-famous.
Other tours, such as the Pemi Valley Scenic Moose and Wildlife Tour, are shorter, lasting just a few hours and focusing primarily on spotting creatures that inhabit New Hampshire's White Mountains.
Bike Tours in New Hampshire and Vermont
Bike tours of various lengths and degrees of difficulty are available throughout the New Hampshire and Vermont region and can be tailored to meet individual requirements. Multi-day tours typically include accommodations and food. Many operators will create a tour specifically for your group with advance notice. With such lush, beautiful scenery throughout the region, it is only natural that there are plenty of biking tour operators and outfitters that offer you the chance to pedal through it and explore nature from up close.
One popular option is a multi-day bike trip through Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The tours take you through small towns and charming villages in the most rural part of Vermont, stopping at attractions like the Cabot Creamery, where some of the world's best cheddar cheese is produced. Meals and accommodations are almost always included in the price of most multi-day bike tours.
Outdoor ESCAPES runs various bike tours of different lengths in New Hampshire's Lakes area, White Mountains area, as well as other areas of the state. The guided tours can be on mountain bikes or bikes better suited for paved roads. As you ride through New Hampshire's wooded mountains or river valleys, you can check out the abundance of natural attractions, regardless of the season. Wildflowers in bloom, birds and wildlife migrating, and/or spectacular fall foliage are among the sights that may greet you as you cycle through the various areas of the state.
Hiking and Walking Tours in New Hampshire and Vermont
Dozens of various different tour operators offer hiking experiences at different levels of difficulty, ranging from those who want a long, leisurely stroll to others who want to scale a mountain peak. Hikes and walks can last anywhere from the better part of a morning or afternoon to a week-long excursion.
One popular option from June-September is taking a multi-day walking tour up into the White Mountains of New Hampshire, specifically to the top of Mt. Willard and to Robert Frost's house in Franconia. While making the journey, participants stay in a series of cozy bed and breakfast establishments (B&Bs) and country inns.
And in Vermont, throughout the year there are plenty of options for traversing the hilly and scenic terrain on foot. Vermont hiking packages are available in all areas of the state. While hiking through the state's Green Mountains, for instance, you'll be able to see and experience firsthand cascading waterfalls, gorgeous views, and crisp, clean mountain air, all of which for the most part you simply cannot have in the region unless you're traveling on foot. Hikes through northern and southern Vermont also offer similar opportunities to really get in touch with nature and get away from the urban hustle and bustle.
