Our History Buff Says:

People of all faiths are invited to visit the Byzantine-styled Cathedral Basilica—a work of architectural art as well as a meaningful place of worship. Reminiscent of the Basilica St. Mark in Venice, the Basilica of St. Louis is a towering structure that can be seen all the way from Highway 64.

Tours of the church by members of the church are highly recommended and are on a pay as you wish donation basis. Tours are not available during mass, but guests are of course welcome to join the church's mass service and to walk around the church on their own. There's also a small museum in the church's basement that showcases the church's great mosaic as well as other church artifacts.

Words cannot express the beauty and feeling of reverence that one feels in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. From the gleaming green terracotta roof tiles on the dome to the Angel of Harmony, a 14 foot statue stainless steel sculpture that represents peace and harmony among all races, you'll be surrounded by art and wonders that will awe even the least religious of visitors.

Perhaps the greatest feature of the Cathedral Basilica is the stunning display of mosaics—the largest display in the world! It took more than 75 years (1912-1988) to finish the mosaic, which uses 7,000 colors in more than 41 million pieces of glass tile! This resplendent piece of art is worth the trip to the Basilica in itself!

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis is located on Lindell Boulevard. To get there, you take I-64 West to Forest Park Avenue (exit 38A). Make a right at South Vandeventer Avenue and then a left on Lindell. For such a large and beautiful structure, you won't have trouble spotting it!
