Our Ski Specialist Says:

Eureka! Besides being ,by definition, an exclamation of the joy of discovery, Eureka is also the setting of the beautiful Hidden Valley Ski Area in Missouri, a short 30 miles from downtown St. Louis, and 230 miles from the windy city of Chicago. A modest 16 slopes are covered in snow from mid-December to early March, and provide anyone from beginners to experts a great place to wear the wax down on equipment this season.

The resort is open weekdays from 1pm to 930pm, and on weekends until 10pm. There is even midnight skiing on Friday and Saturdays in late December called "Moonlight Marathon," when Hidden Valley stays open from 10pm to 3am! Six beginner slopes, five intermediate, and one advanced trail, not including the expert glades area, are all spread out over 30 acres of terrain and covered with 100% snowmaking (even when Mother Nature hasn't provided enough on her own) and lighting for those late nights. Six chairlifts, including one quad chair, reach the summit in a timely manner.

"Outlaw" terrain park is the place to be for snowboarders. The "Outlaw" takes itself so seriously that rental equipment from Hidden Valley's rental shop is not allowed in at all. This park has rails, jumps, and jibs galore. Boarders looking for the half pipe, and those on rentals, can head into "The Badlands" where they will find like-minded peers and music to help keep the moves flowing.

Lessons are given from age three years old and up in both group and private lessons from the professionally qualified staff at Hidden Valley's Ski and Snowboard School.

Tickets are sold in daily, Sunday, or Moonlight Marathon prices, at adult (12 and up) or child rates. Children under the age of 6, and seniors over the age of 70, ski or ride free at Hidden Valley. There are family nights on Sunday with big discounts for any sized family. There are over 1200 pairs of skis and 500 plus snowboards available in the onsite rental shack.

Hidden Valley's 10,000 square foot lodge is fully equipped with a bar, cafeteria, and retail store. Guests should be aware that, like every ski area cafeteria, the food can be pricy, so you may want to pack a cooler of food and drinks and enjoy the seating area instead.

Wildwood and Eureka are guests' home base for lodging and eating offsite. There are several hotels just 5 to 15 minutes away from the mountain including both local and nationally recognized names. Restaurants range from family pizza parlors up to intimate bistro dining. Guests may also choose to head into the much larger cities of St. Louis or Chicago for a plethora of après ski activities, lodging, and other activities with which to pass the winter days and nights when not riding the slopes.

So discover your eureka moment this winter when you visit Hidden Valley Ski Area – it's sure to happen if this stop is on your itinerary.
