Our Museum Expert Says:

With more than 30,000 art works from antiquity to the present, the St. Louis Art Museum is one of the principal art museums in the United States. From mummies to Matisse, this world-class art institution has something for everyone.

Originally built as the Palace of the Fine Arts for the 1904 World's Fair, the Museum's design was inspired by the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, Italy. The St. Louis Art Museum offers rotating exhibitions and installations, in addition to its incredible and diverse permanent collection. The modern art includes works by Matisse, Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh and the collections of Turkish rugs and Oceanic and Pre-Columbian pieces are among the finest in the world. The Max Beckmann collection is one of the largest in the world, and the Egyptian mummies are popular items for visitors of all ages. The Art Museum also hosts family art activities for children on Sundays. While here, why not enjoy lunch or dinner at Puck's, the Museum's restaurant, which overlooks Sculpture Terrace and offers sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries.

To get here, you can take the Hampton #90 MetroBus, which stops in front of the Museum and at the Forest Park MetroLink station. The Forest Park MetroLink station is located across from the Missouri History Museum at 250 DeBaliviere Ave. During the summer, Metro St. Louis offers the Zip2 shuttle bus, which stops at all the Park's major attractions. The Art museum offers hour-long tours and free admission to visitors so no one has an excuse for missing out on this state of the art art museum!
