Our Museum Expert Says:

Home to some of the best transportation vehicles in the world since 1944, the St. Louis County Park's Museum of Transportation is sure to delight. Located on 150 acres on the site of the first man-made railroad tunnels west of the Mississippi River, the Museum holds beautifully restored locomotives, streetcars, automobiles, and a variety of other amazing vehicles. With over 70 locomotives alone, you won't believe how transport has evolved from the horse-drawn carriages to today's modern aircraft.

The Earl C. Lindburg Automotive Centre features St. Louis' oldest express delivery truck, the 1908 Galloway Express Truck and a 1915 Ford Model T. Also on display is a 1964 ½ Ford Mustang, the original pony car, and an operational 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car.

Fridays and weekends make for a hands-on experience at The Museum of Transportation. Visitors can ride the 1947 original Philadelphia streetcar as well as sit in the driver's seat and pull the horn of "Big Boy", a train that could pull a 5.5 mile long train. Who knows, it just might hoot!

At the Barrett station, near the entrance to the museum, you will find food, souvenirs, and gift items. If you're looking for a good meal, a quick bite, or some fascinating models and memorabilia of transportation history, then this is where you should be headed.

To access the Museum of Transportation from Highway 40/I-64 or Manchester Road: Go South on I-270. From I-44, go North on I-270. Exit from I-270 at Exit #8, Dougherty Ferry Road. Go West on Dougherty Ferry Road to Barrett Station Road. Turn left (South) on Barrett Station Road and follow the signs to the Museum. The entrance is on the right-hand (West) side of the road.

Fasten your seatbelts, because after a visit to this fascinating Museum, you will never ride a car the same way again.
