Our Museum Expert Says:

Explore the rich history of St. Louis and surrounding areas through old prints and photos, and interactive exhibits!

Active in the St. Louis community since 1866, the Missouri History Museum is operated by the Missouri Historical Society and admission to most of the museum's facilities is free to the public. The museum's exhibitions change regularly and visitors can enjoy "Seeking St. Louis," a state-of-the-art, interactive, two-gallery exhibition which tells the history of the region from earliest times to the present. The Society's Research Collections contain the premier regional history collection, documenting St. Louis, Missouri, the Mississippi and Missouri Valleys, the Louisiana Purchase Territory, and the American West.

The Missouri History Museum contains nearly a half-million prints and photographs, and by over 120,000 artifacts dating from the colonial period to the present for history buffs to peruse. If you're interested in the history of colonial Upper Louisiana, the fur trade and settlement of the trans-Mississippi West, and Progressive Era business and culture, then this museum is for you.

While here, grab a bite to eat at Meriwether's, the Missouri History Museum's fabulous restaurant, and take in a spectacular view of Forest Park through an expansive wall of curved glass from ceiling to floor. To get to the Missouri History Museum, exit MetroLink at the Forest Park Stop. The museum is two blocks to the south along DeBaliviere.
