At the Contemporary Art museum, St Louis art is not just for perusing and admiring! With diverse programs such as Art Link, Open Laptop, and Lunch and Learn, along with an ever-changing art collection, this museum is an interactive experience of the mind, body, and spirit!
The building housing the Contemporary Art Museum features a long, curved, site-cast concrete wall with a steel mesh overlay, and gallery space designed with an intentional vacancy to emphasize the art housed inside. Past popular exhibitions in 2007 include "I Remember Heaven by Jim Hodges and Contemporary Project Series 2007 by Slater Bradley. Visitors are invited to take advantage of the free tours available Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1:00 pm which last approximately forty-five minutes. In addition to stimulating exhibits, the Contemporary Art Museum boasts unique programs like New Art in the Neighborhood, designed for high school students, and Maritz Free Family Days, which provide families and children of all ages with fun-filled opportunities to both learn about contemporary art and get back to nature. For those interested in dining while here, the in-house restaurant, Tempt, features a variety of tasty lunch items including soup, salads, sides, sandwiches, and desserts.
Getting here is simple. From Highway 40, take the Grand Boulevard exit and go north. Take Grand Boulevard to Washington Boulevard and make a left there. Go one block west to the museum, which is located at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Spring Avenue. So clear the afternoon, and prepare to admire and be a part of the art of our times.
