Come visit the 7 acre national historic site that commemorates the life of the 33rd president of the United States, Harry S. Truman!
Truman was president from 1945-1953. He saw the end of WWII and the effects that it had on the European nation, the U.S., and the entire world and thus made a commitment to strengthen U.S. international involvement. The historic site commemorates Truman's life through the restoration of the Truman Home in Independence, Missouri, the homes of Mrs. Truman's brothers, George and Frank Wallace, the home of Ethel Noland, Truman's aunt, and the Truman Farm Home in Grandview. The exhibits feature artifact-supported themes related to the Trumans and their life in Independence and Grandview, with a collection of over 53,000 artifacts. Visitors can watch the 12 minute introductory slide program in the Visitor Center, take a tour of the Truman Home to see how the "uncommon common man" lived, visit their Farm Home in Grandview, where Truman lived and farmed from 1906-1917, and go on a self-guided walking tour of historic Independence.
To get to the Harry S. Truman National Historic Site, take I-70 to Noland Road, exit 12. Continue on Noland Road (going north) four miles to Truman Road.
