Outdoor Recreation in the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas
Some of the best spots for outdoor sports in the Midwest are in the Ozarks. The names are familiar to everyone in Missouri and Arkansas – Table Rock Lake, Lake of the Ozarks, Buffalo National River, to name a few spots.
Hikers will appreciate the Ozark Trail traverses the Missouri and Arkansas Ozarks, starting near Saint Louis, connecting to the Ozark Highlands Trail in the Arkansas Ozarks. Bikers can enjoy the KATY Trail for 225 miles of outdoor recreation, clear across Missouri. Combine with Amtrak for some of the popular sections. And of course, don't forget the many golf courses around Branson, Missouri and Lake of the Ozarks.
Outdoor Sports on the Ozark Waterways
Buffalo River is officially designated as a National Scenic River, protecting it from dams and other development. The whitewater section of the river is a popular kayaking and canoeing area and fishing is good for the entire length of the river. The many lakes on the Arkansas and the popular lakes of Missouri, including Table Rock Lake near Branson and Lake of the Ozarks are popular trout fishing and boating destinations.
