Adventure Travel in the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas
While the Missouri and Arkansas Ozarks are often frequented by vacationers content to float around lakes and rivers and take relaxing strolls in the mountains, people seeking real adventure will find it in the area. Buffalo National River in Arkansas has sections with difficult class III+ rapids in the Hailstone River section.
Adventurous bikers can attempt to cross Missouri on the KATY Trail, while hikers can hike the Ozarks from near St. Louis to deep into Arkansas on the Ozark and the Ozark Highlands Trail.
An adventure vacation in the Ozarks should include soaring above the landscape in a hot air balloon (budget permitting). Flights leave from several places in Arkansas and Missouri. Below the surface, spelunkers will find many caves to explore.
