Our Sports Superfan Says:
Although it lacks the size of the Metrodome or the newness of the Xcel Energy Center, the Target Center is still an important player in the Minneapolis sports and entertainment scene. Since opening in 1990, the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves' home has been the site of many memorable basketball games, as well as host to concerts, shows, and other events.
The NBA's Timberwolves are the arena's main tenant, playing a minimum of 41 regular season games a year here, in addition to preseason and, sometimes, postseason games. The arena's other tenant is the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx. One of the NBA's larger arenas, the Target Center seats 20,500 for basketball games.
Concerts in the main arena can hold up to 19,500, but the Target Center's floor can also be converted into a 3,000-7,500-seat theater. At this size, calling itself the U.S. Bank Theater, it hosts such events as Broadway-style shows and smaller concerts.
The Target Center is located in the Minneapolis Entertainment District, right across the highway from the site of the new Minnesota Twins stadium. It is accessible via mass transit, either by taking the 19 and 5 buses or the Hiawatha Line of the light rail.
