Our Ski Specialist Says:

Buck Hill ski are has been awarded the title of the "Legendary Capitol of American Ski Racing" by SKI Magazine. With Erich Sailer, a US National Ski Hall of Famer, as their racing coach, Buck Hill certainly has some famous roots. Buck Hill has a long history of keeping it in the family. Forty-five acres, fifteen slopes, and 12 km of cross-country all make up Buck Hill's interesting layout of terrain. Topping it off with three terrain parks and two freestyle areas, Buck Hill knows how to keep their guests coming back season after season.

The four beginner, five intermediate, and one advanced trails at Buck Hill are serviced by eleven chairlifts, which include two quad seated lifts. The season here at Buck Hill runs from November to March, and the slopes are open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 9:30pm, and stay open till 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Early birds get an extra hour on Saturday and Sunday when Buck Hill opens up at 9am for fresh tracks making. Night skiing on the 1,225 foot summit is a sight to behold, with the gladed runs and fantastic scenery surrounding the ski area.

"Halfpipe," "The Knob," and "Railyard" are the three terrain parks where you can shred the day away, while "Skunk Hollow" and "Deer Run" are for both freestyle skiers and snowboarders alike. Jumps, jibs, rails, and boxes make for a blood-pumping good time at Buck Hill and, as the parks are centered around their own side of the mountain, a separately dedicated chairlift gets you to the action there, so you don't need to duck between the other skiers.

There is a "Guaranteed Learn to Ski or Board" program when buying the three lesson package. If the student fails to learn in those three lessons, all money is refunded. Little Bucks is the children's program for ages 4 to 6 year olds, while the Little Cruisers and Boarders are for ages 7 to 12. Any of these programs are arranged in 2 or 5 hour time blocks, with the 5 hour block including a delicious lunch and a progress report at the end of the day. Children must be above age 6 in order to join in the regular group lessons and then by reservation only. Private and semi-private lessons are available for all ages.

Adults, 12 and up, and children have different rate prices for all day, night (after 4pm), early bird (10am to 1pm), midweek, weekend, and holiday tickets. Children under the age of 5 ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. Rentals are available for both standard and high performance sets. High performance equipment and snowboards require a credit card or check deposit of around $300.

Buck Hill's snow tubing park is open from Thursday to Sunday, and from 4pm to around 10pm. It can also be rented out for groups exclusively from Monday to Wednesday. In addition to the onsite day lodge, which offers cafeteria style eating, all guests can head into Burnsville which is home to over 60 eating options that include, among others, American, Asian, steakhouses, fast food, and coffee houses.

There are more than 900 hotel rooms located in Burnsville. It is also only 10 minutes away from the famous Mall of America, which has its own amusement park located inside as well as over 30 miles of shopping. Lodgings offer continental breakfasts, as well as pools, whirlpools, wifi internet access and, in some facilities, kids can stay for free. The Minnesota Zoo, dinner theaters, cinemas, bowling alleys, and more are all close by, making finding something to do at day's end a non-existent problem.

Famous owners and famous staff make Buck Hill a great choice for skiing or snowboarding this season.
