Our Museum Expert Says:

Enjoy an afternoon exploring 100,000 objects spanning 5,000 years of world history. Peruse paintings, prints and photographs or perhaps drawings, textiles, and architecture. Any way you slice it, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts is a powerhouse of artistic diversity that's certain to satisfy.

The collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts is an eclectic blend of African art, Asian art, and art from Oceania and the Americas. The collection of Asian art particularly is considered "one of the finest and most comprehensive in the country". The Institute offers visitors concerts, lectures, workshops, and free tours. Families with young children will enjoy the new Family Center with snacking and private nursing areas, computer activities, games, and quiet reading areas. Ten Sundays a year, the Institute hosts Family Days with music and dance performances, artist demonstrations, gallery activities, and hands-on art activities. Should you get hungry for a bite to eat, check out the MIA's ArtsCafé restaurant and ArtsBreak coffee shop for pizzas, sandwiches, salads, baked goods and hot beverages.

The MIA is located along Metro Transit route #11, and a number of other bus lines run within blocks of the museum. So there's no excuse to miss the excitement at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts!
