Our Museum Expert Says:

Pay a visit to the museum where the most advanced flour mill once stood! Ride the Flour Tower and enjoy fresh baked bread at the Mill City Museum.

The Washburn "A" Mill, the second-largest flour mill in Minneapolis, was once the most technologically advanced mill in the world. Today, after being shut down, it operates as the Mill City Museum, one of the newest Minnesota Historical Society sites. The Museum recounts the history of the flour industry that earned the city the nickname "Mill City," in the late 19th century. The most popular attraction at the museum is the "Flour Tower" ride which goes up and down to depict different scenes from the flour mill. At the top, there's a beautiful view of the riverfront and at the bottom, there's always fresh bread in the test kitchen, and children are welcome to try their hand at rolling some dough. Children will also love the room with the various water activities, where they can try their hand at sorting logs in the river, and the play table where they can get their goods from farm to market.

Visitors to the Mill City Museum can also learn the impact of the nation's first high-quality, finely milled flour on the gastronomy of the Twin Cities and the country, as well as enjoy the onsite café.

So set aside an hour and tantalize your taste buds at the Mill City Museum. To get to the museum via Light Rail: Park and Ride from Ft. Snelling. 18 minutes to Downtown East/Metrodome Station. Walk west 1/2 block to Park Avenue, north on Park Avenue 4 short blocks.
