Things to do / Travel Guide
Freezing temperatures, heavy snowfalls, strong winds, and a large amount of precipitation are characteristic of winters in this region. Artic air over the Lake Superior and the other 10,000 lakes in the area causes chilling temperatures and cloudy days throughout the Minnesota region. Spring is rainy with cool to mild weather and few thunderstorms due to the cooling effects of the thousands of lakes. During the hot, sunny summers, rainfall is plentiful. Cool breezes over the lakes reduce temperatures somewhat, but it's still usually warm. There are also good chances of clouds and fog in the summer. The crisp falls in the Minnesota region are cool to mild due to the warming effects of the areas lakes, with a strong chance of stormy, wet, and foggy weather.
Weather-wise, the best times to pay a visit to the Minnesota region are in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall. Though you might still encounter some rain in these seasons, you can always take cover indoors in Minneapolis' Mall of America. And whether it's raining or not, fall's colorful foliage is always a great sight to behold.
