Things to do / Travel Guide
The Minnesota region has a bit of everything when it comes to golf - there's golf near the city and golf in the remotest of locations. It's everywhere you need it and even some places where you don't.
At Rush Creek you'll find wide fairways as well as beavers, woodchucks, deer, and all sorts of waterfowl. You'll also find the famous Rush Creek Golf Academy where you can take your game to the next level.
Can't hit the side of a barn? You'll find out for sure at the 11th hole at Stone Ridge when you tee off from the edge of a pond toward a barn on the other side. Note that the fairway is just after the water and between the barn and some trees.
The course at the Legends Club isn't easy, but they help you as much as possible, with a GPS navigation system in each of the golf carts.
Elevation changes are plentiful at The Wilds, and many of the fairways are tight. There are countless strategically placed sand bunkers lined with the same white, Ohio sand used at Augusta National, home of "The Masters."
Undulating fairways, tall grass, trees, and water combine to make the Chaska Town beautiful links-style course one of the more challenging in Minnesota.
Madden's Lake Classic Course illustrates how to build a golf course in the flat Midwest. Think water, sand, trees, water, water, and water. Examples include hole 2, where water runs along its entire right side, and hole 3, where the small green is surrounded on three sides by water.
Those with a creative streak will love the Grand View Lodge Pines Course where you're able to design your own golf course by mixing and matching from the three 9-hole courses that make up the Pines.
Deacon's Lodge has been called the finest course ever designed by Arnold Palmer. The thing is, Arnie had a sense of humor, and the joke might just be on you. Beware.
The Giants' Ridge Quarry Course is a unique and challenging design that has you playing through mine lands, wetlands, forests, and a sand quarry.
Then there's the Giant's Ridge Quarry Course that some call remote, but that is definitely worth the trip. This gorgeous course offers extremely challenging wooded terrain.
The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is long and wide. Think double fairways and you start to get the picture (though playing from the forward tees can make it more playable).
