The Minneapolis – St. Paul area is a surprisingly family-friendly travel destination. Besides the obvious outdoor attractions, including parks, lakes, waterfalls and the shores of the Mississippi, there is a good assortment of more standard family attractions, including a top ranked zoo and science museum.
Number one would be the Mall of America, the number one attraction in the whole state of Minnesota. With 22 lakes within the city limits, families who enjoy outdoor recreation will not be disappointed. For an excursion “Up North” consider taking the two and a half hour drive to Brainerd, Minnesota. The area is popular among weekend travelers from Minneapolis who come to hike, bike, ride horses and get out on the water. The trails in the area are pretty flat and the waters are calm, making for a nice family travel destination near Minneapolis.
