Sheboygan Art Museum was a small art museum in Sheboygan that seems to be presently closed. A much more popular art museum in Sheboygan is the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) at 608 New York Avenue, also in Sheboygan. The Kohler family, a well known local and national industry name set out to create a very different kind of art museum. Before we get into details, lets just say that the bathrooms have some of the most creative art you will see anywhere – certainly in any bathroom. The museum focuses on the creation and discovery of new works, new artists and creative new artistic ideas. Art forms include performing arts, sculpture, painting, gardens and environment builders. Michael Kohler Arts Center is much more than just a Sheboygan Art Museum – here just about anything can be art. There is a lot to see here and the center will certainly be of interest to art lovers as well as people who don't really like art museums. Kids, especially will enjoy seeing the wild and crazy items on display. If you have been to the Louvre, the Met and are just heading up from the world-class museums in Chicago, stop off at JMKAC for a very different art experience. Now head to Sheboygan. Sheboygan is not as far as it seems and the hour trip from Milwaukee, north on I-43, is worth it to enjoy the art space at the museum.
