Come explore one of the best natural history museums in the country! Visit Africa, Asia, Europe, the Arctic, South and Middle America, the Pacific Islands, and a Costa Rican rainforest, all within 150,000 square feet of exhibits.
The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) is a natural and human history museum that was opened to the public in 1884. Today, visitors can explore all corners of the world in the 17 permanent exhibits and get up close and personal with nature's bounty in the Butterfly Wing, walking amongst the butterflies. The Third Planet offers great entertainment for visitors of all ages, and let's not forget the IMAX theater and planetarium, with films on topics such as Black holes and names like "Honey I Shrunk the Solar System." One of the more popular exhibits is "Streets of Old Milwaukee," which opened in January 1965, with exhibit buildings represented at about three-quarters size or less and constructed from three different styles of paving.
At the exhibit candy shop, you can actually buy penny candy, stick candy, and other old-fashioned favorites. Should you get hungry while here, the Café Costa Rica offers great snacks and lunches, or check out the Badger Deli, the Get Away Grill, or Simply to Go for a healthier meal.
The Museum is located at the intersection of West Well Street and North James Lovell Street (7th Street). Several buses stop a block or two away from the Museum on Wisconsin Avenue which is a block south of West Wells Street. If riding on Wisconsin Avenue, get off at the stop nearest North James Lovell Street. If entertaining education is your cup of tea, get ready for a memorable day at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
