Ida B. Wells was a prominent journalist and well known African American figure in the early 20th Century. An activist and outspoken critic of lynching and mob violence, she received international attention for her writings on the subject. Her battles against racism in her native state of Tennessee continued when she moved to Chicago in the early 1900's, where she was one of the founders of the NAACP and active in the U.S. suffrage movement. The Romanesque Revival stone residence is not open to the public.
