Things to do / Travel Guide

Wintertime in Metro Chicago and southern Wisconsin is downright cold. As commonly seen in TV series throughout the years, such as “ER,” “Family Matters,” “Perfect Strangers,” and “The Bob Newhart Show,” and on nationally-televised football games featuring the Chicago Bears and/or the Green Bay Packers, this region is inseparable from snow in the winter. Heavy blizzards, severe snowstorms, and brisk winds are par for the course. Spring brings with it warmer temperatures, but it's still frequently rainy and windy. Summers, by contrast, feature sunny, clear skies and warm to hot temperatures. Breezes from the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan in particular, help cool the region down somewhat, but are also the cause for relatively high humidity. Fall has sunny skies with moderate, comfortable temperatures.

True to being the home of “the Windy City,” there's no season in this region where you'll escape the winds blowing in from the Great Lakes. That being said, visitors can watch Chicago and Milwaukee becomes winter wonderlands during the holiday season. Alternatively, for warmer, more pleasant weather, fall is your best bet.
