Things to do / Travel Guide
For some, the conventional ways to see Chicago and Southern Wisconsin just won't do. If you count yourself among this group, don't fret! There are exciting adventures waiting to be discovered, like hot air ballooning, sky diving, and even helicopter rides. All these are within reach when you visit Chicagoland and southern Wisconsin.
Skydiving
Why see Chicago from the street when you can see it from a bird's eye view? No need to walk up the Magnificent Mile of Michigan Avenue, when you can see it, and the rest of downtown Chicago, from the air. The Chicago-land Skydiving Center, located outside Chicago in Hinckley, Illinois, offers the rush of adrenaline for beginners and advanced skydivers. There is nothing like seeing the Chicago skyline from 14,500 feet in the air! Then from 14,000 feet, then 13,500 feet, etc., etc.
Hot Air Ballooning
Hot air ballooning is a regal way to see the sites, especially when the ride is accompanied by a champagne toast and hors d'ouvres. Fox Grove and Plainfield, Illinois are perfect places to start your view of Chicagoland. Hovering over sites like the Sears Tower and Lake Michigan can be very relaxing. The prairies of southern Wisconsin are gorgeous in their naturalness, especially when the view is from 500 feet in the air. Lake Geneva and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, just outside Madison, Wisconsin, also offer great views of southern Wisconsin, including the State Capitol and the Monona Terrace in Madison, and the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee.
Helicopter Rides
Chicago by helicopter is thrilling and scenic. Chicago Tours offers two different experiences to view Chicago via helicopter. The Downtown Chicago tour takes you through the Loop, and over Lake Michigan, whereas the Total Experience tour shows you everything from O'Hare Airport, to Bronzeville.
For the edgy thrill in Wisconsin, try Magic Carpet Helicopters based out of Kenosha. They offer to take you anywhere you want to go, whether it's Chicago or Milwaukee. Helicopter rides generally last about 30 minutes or less, but are packed with thrills by the minute.
