Maui, Molokai, and Lanai all offer ample opportunities for sports fishing. Off the coast of Maui, for instance, a 1,000-pound blue marlin was once reeled in. Off the coast of Molokai, ahi tuna and mahi-mahi can be caught, as well as the occasional marlin. Like Maui and Molokai, blue marlin fish can also be baited in the waters around Lanai, as well as mahi-mahi, ono, and ahi and aku fish.
Maui Fishing Trips
Maui is a magnificent location for game fishing with many diving and fishing shops located across the island, many of which offer boating tours for those wishing to catch some local fish for supper. There is a vibrant fishing scene on Maui, with tournaments held throughout the year. When these tournaments come to Maui (mostly in July-October), most of the boats in the waters around Maui close down, sometimes for as long as five days at a time. Advance bookings for fishing trips off the island of Maui are highly recommended.
Molokai Fishing Trips
Molokai is a good spot from which to go big-game fishing as well as deep-sea fishing. In addition, Molokai is known for its many fish ponds located along its southern shore. This means that there are also several opportunities for shallow-water fishing all around Molokai. You'll have to catch the fish on your own, but, if you hire a boat and go out to sea, the boat captains will wash and clean anything you reel in. They'll even bring your fish over to your condo or hotel so you can cook it for dinner! Now that's service!
Lanai Fishing Trips
Fishing on Lanai is a particularly enjoyable activity, especially at spots along the island's southern shore. Fish that have been caught in the waters surrounding Lanai include mahi-mahi, ono, and even blue marlin. The waters around Lanai are full of fish all year round, so get ready to reel ‘em in!
