Botanical Gardens in Hawaiian Islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai

Things to do / Travel Guide

Maui

For fans of the film “Jurassic Park,” head to the Garden of Eden Arboretum and Botanical Garden, a 26-acre botanical wonder dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Maui's natural ecosystem. Here is where the movie's production crew filmed the opening sequence of “Jurassic Park.” The Garden of Eden Arboretum and Botanical Garden is home to over 500 different kinds of plants, flowers, and trees native to the various islands of the Pacific.

Molokai

Molokai features a plethora of beautiful places filled with wonderful tropical foliage, plants, and animals. For visitors who wish to encounter, firsthand, 2,774 acres of natural Hawaiian beauty, head to the Kamakou Preserve, just located beyond the Waikolu Lookout. The Kamakou Preserve, which is managed by the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, is home to the ohia lehua with its bright red blossoms, fern trees, native orchids, and lilies. Animals in the Kamakou Preserve include the pueo (Hawaiian owl), the Molokai creeper, and the Molokai thrush. As many of the plants, animals, and birds in the Kamakou Preserve are endangered, visitors are requested to treat the “residents” with respect.
