Expert White Water Rafting Review

Experience the whitewater of the Gorge on the Kennebec River. Shoot the 12 miles of Class III-IV+ (Gorge); I-III (Carry Brook) rapids. Children can often join their parents at Carry Brook, where the waters are much less turbulent. This section is located in north-central Maine, at the southern end of Indian pond, 10 miles east of Hwy 201.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from May to September, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from a half day to a full day. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, oar rafts, and inflatable kayaks. Portage may be required.

Useful Tips: A guide may be required, and whitewater experience is recommended. Outfitters on the Gorge on the Kennebec River offer trips suitable for families (only in carry brook section).

Expect to See: Eagles and osprey in an environment of wilderness, forests, and mountains.
