One of the friendliest ski mountains around, making its visitors feel immediately welcome, Titcomb Mountain, located in West Farmington, Maine, has been an affordable and family oriented ski area since 1938. Fifteen trails drop down from its 750 foot summit and its 15.4km of Nordic trails keep the cross country lovers happy, so that everyone, alpine or not, can join in on the winter fun.
Titcomb's season runs from December through March, from 3-6pm, or later midweek, and from 9am to 4pm on weekends. Riders have four beginner, six intermediate, and five advanced slopes to run down, which are serviced by two T-bar chairlifts. There is also a "terrain trail," which has a small halfpipe, and a system of rails and jumps, for those on snowboarding equipment.
Learn to ski, snowboard or Nordic ski lessons are available from the ski school desk, and 24 hour advance notice is required for private and group lessons to make sure ample staff is on hand to answer and teach proper techniques.
Full and half day passes are sold in adult, young adult, and junior age brackets. There are also student, K-12, and college discounts, with a school identification card. Also, tickets to the pony-lift area can be purchased separately for riders who want just a beginner area on which to practice. Rentals are limited, and are on a first-come, first-served basis. They include skis, snowboards, and cross-country equipment.
There is a small snack bar located in the day lodge for a quick bite to eat. Farmington is home to the University of Maine, and the town therefore has many motels, hotels, dining options, shopping outlets and nightlife typical of a college town and is a visitor's best bet for making a vacation out of coming to Titcomb Mountain this season.
Affordable, intimate, close, and friendly – Titcomb lives up to its advertisement of "Friendliest Mountain around" each and every season, which makes for great memories and return visits every year.
