Located in one of the most scenic areas in New England, you're sure to find one beautiful run after another at Big Squaw Mountain Resort with its breathtaking views of Moosehead Lake. Big Squaw's location, in the remote Moosehead Lake area, ensures uncrowded trails and lifts, and a great mountain on which to learn or to improve your skiing skills.
Big Squaw is known by locals for its varied terrain. The mountain is split into two major areas: the Upper and Lower mountains. This division splits up the 33 trails found on the mountain. The Lower Mountain is dedicated to the beginner and intermediate terrain, characterized as such by its long and gentle runs. The Upper Mountain is where advanced and expert skiers can glide down narrow runs through beautiful glades.
Snowboarders are welcome on all trails, and the mountain's glades were even designed by professional snowboarders. There is also a terrain park filled with tricks, jumps, and additional tricks, to keep boarders busy all day long. Big Squaw's season runs from late November until early April. They ensure their long season via 70% snowmaking, which blankets the Lower mountain when need be, while Mother Nature's taking care of the Upper mountain.
If you're looking for a different kind of adventure, make sure to check out Big Squaw's backcountry. This beautiful region provides ample opportunities for telemark skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
To grab a bite at any time of day, check out the cafeterias in the mountain's two base lodges. Here you can also find video games and pool tables for a little break from the slopes. The lodge also has a bar and lounge, while the hotel serves up meals and provides a large stone fireplace to warm up by after a long day on the slopes. For an evening bite, head out to nearby Greenville. The small town atmosphere and variety of restaurants and pubs should suffice to satisfy anyone's needs. If you're looking to self-cater, there are also a wide variety of grocery stores there.
The resort has a 52 unit hotel, but additional lodging can be found in Greenville with its selection of B&Bs, campgrounds, and additional lodging options.
