Flying to Bangor, Maine (BGR)
Bangor is the airport of choice for access to Maine's North Woods. It is also a popular diversion destination, being the first airport in the United States encountered by flights from Europe. But don't wait for mechanical trouble or Cat Stevens on your plane to visit BGR – the airport is served mainly by commuter airlines with non-stop flights to New York, Philadelphia, Detroit and Orlando. Interestingly enough, there are no non-stop flights between Bangor and Boston. It is probably a good idea to drive.
Further south, Portland International Jetport (PWM) is more convenient to the Maine – New Hampshire border area and is served better by the major United States airlines, with non-stop service to Chicago and most of the cities of the East Coast.
