Our Wine Tasting Expert Says:
The Winterport Winery opened its doors in the fall of 2001, but interestingly got its start 30 years earlier when a home wine-making kit was given to the proprietors as a Christmas gift. The hobby eventually turned into full-time work and a family-run business. The winery now occupies a 3,200-square-foot work area and 1,100-square-foot tasting room. Come sample the great and unique wines, such as the fruity and surprisingly sophisticated Blueberry, Pear, Apple, Strawberry, Raspberry Rain, Spring Fever, Orchard Blush, Cranberry, and Flying Dutchman. There is also a tasting room on the premises adorned with artwork from one of the family members (she does the labels, too), as well as hand-crafted chocolates, gifts, and other goodies. Stop by for a visit - they're open from the first weekend in April through the last weekend in December. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
